SPECIAL STUDENT CATEGORY

Interested candidates who with to take only one or two courses and who meet the admission requirements of the Graduate and Post-doctoral Studies Office at McGill may apply as a Special Student.

Students who meet the minimum entrance requirements of the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office and wish to take one or at most two, graduate-level courses per term (6 credits) without intention of proceeding to a degree or diploma are termed Special Students.  After completion of a maximum of 12 credits, an applicant may not continue as a Special Student.

If Special students subsequently become candidates for higher degrees, they may receive academic credit for relevant graduate courses taken as Special Students.  They must apply every year.

Criteria for MBA Japan Program:

The student MUST have an undergraduate degree equivalent to a McGill degree from a recognized university and achieved a CGPA of 3.0 (GPSO minimum entrance requirement.) There is no exception to this requirement.

If the student meets the above requirement, they should submit all supporting documents as required for the MBA Japan program.

The academic year at McGill has three terms: Summer, Fall, and Winter. A special student can take courses in two consecutive terms in the same academic year without having to re-apply.

The academic year at McGill commences with the Fall Term each September.  An applicant accepted for the Fall term can also take courses in the Winter Term which starts in January, without having to re-apply.  If accepted in the January term, can take courses in the Summer term.  If accepted in the Summer term, must re-apply and pay application fee for the subsequent Fall term.

Courses:  Students should only register into second year MBA II courses if they have adequate background.  This can be checked with the professor when the student meets with the Director and indicates the course(s) of interest.

If the student decides to apply to the MBA Japan Program after taking some courses, they must complete a new application and be admitted to the program. For more information about the Special Student status, please contact our office in Tokyo.
